After Ben & Jerry’s moved to stop selling their ice cream in parts of Israel, Councilman D’Esposito and the Town acted quickly under the Town law and banned products from Ben & Jerry’s parent company, Unilever, from Town properties.
Anthony will take his experience to Congress and pass the national anti-BDS legislation first proposed by Congressman Lee Zeldin.

Through the leadership of Councilman Anthony D’Esposito and now County Executive Bruce Blakeman, the Town of Hempstead enacted one of the first local laws in the nation to stand with Israel by combating the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement.
“BDS as we know it is an orchestrated movement to weaken and delegitimize Israel,” the bill’s sponsor, Long Island Sen. Anna Kaplan, told The Post, referring to the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement, which calls for institutions to divest from Israel.
“It is really important that we send a very strong message that New York stands with Israel and supports Israel, as we have done for decades.”
