LONG ISLAND, NY – Congressman Anthony D’Esposito (NY-04) declared victory over his Democratic opponent, Laura Gillen, after the pair squared off in a highly anticipated debate hosted by News 12 Long Island. D’Esposito, who was first elected to Congress in 2022 after defeating perennial candidate Laura Gillen, touted his successful, bipartisan track record on Capitol Hill during the debate and lambasted Laura Gillen for her unwillingness to deviate from unpopular progressive policy positions being advanced by the national Democratic Party.
“Laura Gillen is attempting to revive the same, tired, deceptive playbook she used during her failed campaign in 2022, and I am confident voters will once again roundly reject Gillen’s unpopular progressive policy agenda that is more aligned with the priorities of her leftist financial backers than those of hardworking Long Island taxpayers,” said D’Esposito. “No amount of lies spewed by the Gillen campaign can change the fact that I have governed in a bipartisan fashion and always placed the interests of my constituents ahead of partisan politics.”
Throughout the debate, Congressman D’Esposito reiterated his bipartisan work to advance legislation strengthening federal protections for IVF treatments, combat Albany Democrats’ congestion pricing plan, reject the unpopular Equinor offshore wind turbine project, and more. What’s more, D’Esposito touted his legislative victories in helping pass House Republican’s H.R. 2 border security plan, as well as the passage of D’Esposito’s legislation to formally condemn certain antisemitic slogans. Indeed, D’Esposito’s victories in Congress also include the over $20 million in direct federal grants he secured for New York’s 4th District that will benefit first responder agencies, Long Island libraries, educational institutions, and local infrastructure projects.
