Mayor Eric Adams’ NYPD budget cuts are making Long Island unsafe.
These cuts will reduce the NYPD force to just 29,000 by 2025, a reduction of nearly 5,000 officers, the lowest since the mid-90s. Adams has attributed the city’s multibillion-dollar budget shortfall to the surging migrant crisis, estimated to cost the city $12 billion over the next three fiscal years. This unwillingness to end New York’s sanctuary city policy has led to a freeze on NYPD’s new academy class and cuts in police overtime, further straining our law enforcement resources amid rising crime rates and a never-ending influx of unvetted illegal migrants.
As a former NYPD Detective with over a decade of service and over 600 arrests, and as a former Chief of the Island Park Fire Department, I know firsthand the cost of this failure of leadership; I am deeply concerned about the implications of these budget cuts for our safety and security, especially for the daily commuters in our city. Join me in demanding an end to these budget cuts.
