ANTHONY D’ESPOSITO DECLARES VICTORY AFTER NEWSDAY’S ALL-IMPORTANT NY-04 CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE DEBATE

MELVILLE, N.Y. – Anthony D’Esposito, the tax-cutting Hempstead Town Councilman and Republican nominee for Congress in New York’s 4th Congressional District, declared victory over his Democrat competitor after Newsday’s all-important candidate debate.
“I was glad for the opportunity to debate my opponent and expose the countless lies she has spewed against me in order to cover up her dismal record,” said D’Esposito. “Laura Gillen was a horrendous one-term Hempstead Town Supervisor who used the power of her office to target political opponents, and will be an even worse member of Congress, where she will be a rubber stamp vote for Joe Biden’s, AOC’s, and the ‘Squad’s’ disastrous far-left agenda.”
The debate provided a stage for Anthony D’Esposito to share his record of cutting taxes as a member of the Hempstead Town Board, fighting crime during his tenure as an NYPD Detective where he made over 600 arrests of violent criminals, and serving his community as Chief of the Island Park Fire Department. What’s more, the event publicly exposed the failed policies of D’Esposito’s Democrat opponent, Laura Gillen. An ally of the far-left, Laura Gillen voted down the bipartisan Hempstead Town tax-cut budget advanced by D’Esposito during her brief stint as Hempstead Town Supervisor and campaigned alongside Todd Kaminsky, the “architect” of New York’s failed cashless bail law that lets criminals roam free after committing violent crimes like assault, battery, and robbery.
“Throughout my career, the interests of the community I serve have always been at the forefront of my mind and I look forward to continuing that service in Congress,” said D’Esposito. “Whether it be cutting taxes as a Hempstead Town Councilman, forcing dangerous criminals off the streets as an NYPD Detective or fighting fires as a Fire Chief, the people of New York have always been my primary priority, and that will never change.”
During the debate, Anthony D’Esposito’s career as a first responder stood in stark contrast to Laura Gillen’s history of supporting radical bail reform advocates like Todd Kaminsky. Indeed, Laura Gillen’s tacit support for bail reform via her campaigning for the legislation’s “author” remains relevant today as communities across New York struggle to tame out-of-control crime committed by scores of offenders set free from jail thanks to the reform’s cashless bail provision. Moreover, Gillen’s silence at the debate on President Biden’s failed open border policies that continue to fuel the nationwide crime spike was particularly jarring. The pipeline of criminals and drugs flowing into the country over America’s porous southern border, thanks to President Biden’s “catch and release” approach to border policing, has not only spurred crime but contributed to the opioid epidemic here in New York. While D’Esposito has vowed to work collaboratively with law enforcement to stem crime, secure the border, and fight the opioid epidemic – Laura Gillen once again remained mum at the debate.
With Gillen’s lackluster record on full blast, her propensity for supporting radical politicians, and her inability to criticize the Biden-induced economic downturn, Anthony D’Esposito asked the residents of New York’s 4th Congressional District a simple question at the debate – Are you truly better off now than you were when Joe Biden first took office?
“If you are tired of the Biden Administration’s failed policies that have led to lawlessness on our streets, inflation raising the costs of everyday goods, and our open southern border that allows criminals to smuggle dangerous drugs like fentanyl into our country with impunity, then I invite you to join my campaign for Congress,” said D’Esposito. “Unlike my opponent who will be another rubber stamp vote for the far-left agenda adopted by Joe Biden and his enablers, I will be a strong, independent voice for Long Islanders who are crying out for common sense, positive reforms.”
