The previously “Deep Blue” district was part of the Democrats’ northeastern firewall; D’Esposito’s win seen as crucial to Republicans regaining control of the House of Representatives

BALDWIN, N.Y. – Congressman-elect Anthony D’Esposito (R-Island Park) addressed an enormous crowd of supporters at his election night watch party in Baldwin as he declared victory in New York’s 4th Congressional District.  The 4th Congressional District, located in the southwest corner of Nassau County, was formerly known as a “Deep Blue” seat comprising part of the Democrats’ northeastern firewall. The district, which swung into the Republican column on Election Day, was a crucial pickup in the GOP’s bid to retake the House of Representatives during the all-important midterms.

“I am honored to have been elected as the next member of Congress in NY-04.  Neighbors of all backgrounds and party affiliations believed in my common sense campaign and in our shared vision of a prosperous, safe, and free America.  As your next member of Congress, I will work tirelessly to serve the residents of New York’s 4th Congressional District, and bring Long Island’s hometown values to Washington, D.C.  Thank you to all my fellow Long Islanders who have entrusted me with the sacred task of representing them in our Nation’s capital. I will not let you down.”

The flipping of the 4th Congressional District from Democrat to Republican demonstrated a seismic shift across much of Long Island as Empire State residents rejected New York’s recent leftward shift. While Democrats struggled to connect with voters, D’Esposito – a retired NYPD Detective – ran a law-and-order campaign focused on curbing violent crime, fighting the Democrat enacted “cashless bail” laws, and reducing runaway inflation.  The focus on public safety and pocketbook issues by D’Esposito allowed the Island Park native to overcome a significant Democrat voter enrollment advantage in his South Shore district.

“This wasn’t a ‘red wave’ or a ‘blue wave’ it was a common sense wave.  My neighbors in New York’s 4th Congressional District were tired of the direction our country was going in and voted for change.  I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as a member of Congress and advocate on behalf of the hardworking Americans who elected to send me to Capitol Hill.  There will be a change come January, and all New Yorkers will benefit.”

D’Esposito shared his victory with a long list of local GOP candidates who were elected to the New York State Senate, Assembly, and neighboring congressional districts in what amounted to a marked Republican resurgence across Long Island.
